Gary Neville criticised Jamie Carragher for his "disrespect" after the Liverpool legend laughed at his suggestion about Ruben Amorim.

The two Sky Sports pundits made their predictions for the fresh Premier League campaign on Monday evening. Beyond the usual picks for champions, relegated sides and leading goalscorers, the duo also highlighted managers worth monitoring closely.

Liverpool legend Carragher opted for Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, with the Austrian having guided the Eagles to FA Cup and Community Shield glory in 2025. However, Neville had different thoughts.

He chose Manchester United boss Amorim, reports the Mirror. Upon hearing that selection, Carragher erupted into laughter, which clearly irritated his colleague.

Neville asked: "Why you laughing?" Carragher then replied: "You pick the Man United manager every year on that." Neville hit back: "I don't pick them every year, it's disrespectful."

But Carragher wasn't having any of it, harking back to this time 12 months ago as he insisted: "You picked three of them last year and one of them was [Erik] ten Hag."

Defending his reasoning, the United legend explained: "The reason last year was a similar reason to this. Ten Hag last year because I knew if he started badly, he'd be under massive pressure. Similarly, there's probably going to be no in between here.

"Ruben Amorim, if he starts off badly and they're in 13th, 14th in October, November, he's going to be under massive pressure. He's the Manchester United manager, he has to deliver in these first few months of the season and I think he will outperform.

"I know you're not sure about him and you sort of wrote your article the other day saying that you think he's not that good. Well, what was your article about?"

Carragher said: "It was about the two managers, [Mikel] Arteta and Amorim and how Amorim would be delighted if he was in Arteta's position in three or four years."

United have already endured a challenging beginning following a summer transfer window that saw them splash out more than £200m on new signings. They suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, marking Amorim's 15th Premier League loss in 28 matches since his switch from Sporting Lisbon in November.

United will be looking to bounce back this weekend when they travel to face Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Red Devils then begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to face Grimsby Town.
