Fabrizio Romano: “World-class” Liverpool player and agent “have informed” Reds of big decision

A “world-class” Liverpool player has now made a significant decision over his future alongside his agent, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds have a lengthy break before their next Premier League game, with a trip to Newcastle United to come next Monday evening.

It promises to be a feisty affair at St James’ Park, given the Alexander Isak situation, and it would be a surprise if the Swede’s future has been resolved by that point.

There is also key business to sort regarding other incomings and outgoings for Liverpool, though, with Federico Chiesa’s future up in the air.

The Italian was the Reds’ hero against Brentford in their opening game of the season last Friday, and writing on X, Romano claimed that he wants to stay at Anfield beyond this summer:

“Federico Chiesa and his agent have informed Liverpool about clear desire to stay at the club. Chiesa considered to leave in June/July when LFCrejected bids for Diaz and Federico was left out of Asian tour. Now Diaz left, more space and that goal to open new chapter.”

Do Liverpool need to keep hold of Chiesa this summer?

This is an update that will likely go down well with lots of Liverpool supporters, considering what a popular figure Chiesa has become, not least after his late goal at home to Brentford.

Away from his likeability, though, the 27-year-old is needed for the Reds, especially after the departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, and the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

Injuries have been an issue for Chiesa, but if he can avoid them moving forward, he can be an excellent squad option for Arne Slot, having been lauded by Alessandro Pierini in the past:

“He’s world-class. He has all the ability and desire of a great player,” Pierini said. “If he improves then he’ll be even better than his father [Enrico].”

It makes little sense for Liverpool to sell Chiesa this summer, especially now that Ben Doak has also been sold to Bournemouth, so hopefully, the Reds see things the same way as the Italy international and his agent.
