On Sunday, AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare told Sportmediaset the Rossoneri are interested in Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund, putting their interest on record.
The Dane was initially reluctant to depart Old Trafford but had opened up to an exit last week, giving hope to the Italian side.
Competition for the striker is now increasing and today’s Corriere dello Sport carries front page news about Napoli’s interest in the 22-year-old.
The newspaper note that with Romelu Lukaku out of action for about three months due to a muscle injury, the Italian champions see the Manchester United player as a replacement.
Napoli have previously explored the possibility of signing Højlund and they now believe that the Denmark international fits the profile that they want, as CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis ‘launches a charge’ to bring him to Naples.
The report claims that Manchester United are happy to loan out the player on an initial loan deal worth €5m to €6m with a buying option set between €35m to €40m.
Napoli have already knocked on the doors for the ex-Atalanta player, having met disappointment in an approach for Joshua Zirkzee, and are now prepared to make a late move to bring Højlund back to Serie A.
This competition between Milan and Napoli can potentially help Manchester United in earning a higher figure for their player, or even turning an option to buy into an obligation based on conditions.
