Newcastle have shown “some interest” in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson but they have not made a formal bid, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano made it clear that the Senegalese international is likely to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts, but there is no guarantee that he will end up at St James’ Park:
“Keep an eye still on Nicolas Jackson because Jackson is expected to leave Chelsea. The decision is okay on both player and club side, so still looking for opportunities.”

“There was some interest from Newcastle, but still no bid. Still some interest from Premier League clubs in active conversations for Jackson.”
Jackson’s asking price is a major obstacle
Romano states that Chelsea are holding out for a fee in the region of “€80m (£69m) to €90m (£77.6m) for Jackson”, which is not the sort of figure you can see the Magpies paying.
After looking rather toothless without Alexander Isak in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at the weekend, there is an urgent need for a new No.9 to be brought in. However, there are clearly serious doubts about whether Jackson is worth that sort of money.
Are Newcastle exploring moves for other strikers?
Eddie Howe’s team are still working on a deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. The addition of Brentford’s Dango Ouattara is likely to open the door for the Congolese international to leave the Gtech Community Stadium. However, an agreement on the transfer fee still hasn’t been reached.
It is also felt that Howe sees Wissa as a replacement for Callum Wilson, rather than Isak, so it is assumed that the club would also want another striker in addition to the Bees player.
