The [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) of West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez could happen sooner than expected, according to football insider [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1957555038068617458).
The transfer ITK has been all over the story of Álvarez leaving the London Stadium over the past 48 hours. José Mourinho’s Turkish club Fenerbahçe are reported to have jumped to the front of the queue for the Mexican’s services, with talks already taking place.
Mourinho’s move comes after the midfielder’s former club Ajax also declared their interest, alongside two other unnamed European clubs.
The deal is set to be a loan with an obligation to buy, with West Ham receiving an as-yet undetermined loan fee. Álvarez’s near-£100k per week wages are expected to be fully covered by the arrangement.
Reports that this saving could help the Hammers bring in players are disappointing, to say the least. Offloading the likes of Carlos Soler, Michail Antonio, and Łukasz Fabiański over the summer already saved the club £500,000 per week — meaning there should be ample wriggle room to sign players now.
