Manchester City sensation Callum Doyle has emerged as the latest target for Rangers at Ibrox.
Doyle already has significant experience under his belt after several loan spells in the Championship, and the 21-year-old is a highly sought-after talent as Rangers competed for his signature.
Russell Martin wanted to bring the centre-back to Ibrox, with Rangers’ options fairly limited in the position, and Doyle is also capable of playing at left-back.
However, despite Rangers’ interest, an £8million deal has now been agreed for Doyle to move elsewhere, in a frustrating blow.

Wrexham agree deal for Rangers target Doyle
Jordan Campbell of The Athletic has now reported that Rangers have lost out to Championship side Wrexham in the race for Doyle, and the newly-promoted side have now agreed a deal.

Rangers and Sheffield United both wanted to recruit Doyle, but the 21-year-old’s preference was to move to Wrexham because of their location.
Doyle has spent time at Coventry, Leicester, Norwich City and Sunderland on loan.
The defender has made 98 Championship appearances, scoring once and providing nine assists.
Clearly, a move up north to Glasgow was unlikely rather than staying in the Championship, and at £8m, he may have been out of Rangers’ financial reach unless a loan deal could have been agreed.
Doyle was seen as a left centre-back, but Martin may have had a left-back role earmarked for him, as a more defensive option than James Tavernier on the other flank.

Rangers and Sheff Utd were also interested in the left centre-back but location a factor behind preference.

Rangers need new left-back
The potential departure of Jefte to Palmeiras has meant that a new left-back is needed as a priority, with an upgrade already necessary.
It remains to be seen what kind of profile will be targeted now that Doyle is no longer on the cards, and Max Aarons had disastrous results when he attempted to fill in out of position at left-back.
John Souttar has also had a difficult start to the season, and Doyle may have been seen as a long-term replacement for him, as well as someone who could slot in immediately.
Time is running out in the window for Rangers to strengthen, and a new left-back is as much of a priority as a centre-forward after a poor start to the campaign.
