Man Utd are keeping their options open in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United would have to be 'crazy' to opt out of a deal to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old has been frozen out at Paris Saint-Germain just months after he helped them win the Champions League and was left out of their squad for the Super Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur last week.
Donnarumma is still regarded as one of the very best goalkeepers in world football and will be of particular interest to United fans after the manner of their defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League. Andre Onana was not selected for the 1-0 loss at Old Trafford and his replacement Altay Bayindir was at fault for the only goal of the game.
Speaking at full-time, Ruben Amorim insisted he was happy with the options he had at his disposal while last week United sources distanced themselves for a move to sign Donnarumma before deadline day.

United did explore the possibility of signing a new goalkeeper this summer but decided to prioritise a refresh of their attacking options instead. Amorim was backed with roughly £200 million to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, while it is suggested Donnarumma would cost roughly £26m to sign from PSG, as well as his £10.3m-a-year salary.
United saw a loan offer for Aston Villa ace Emi Martinez rejected earlier in the window, while they also held interest in Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor before he joined West Ham. Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens is admired by United figures, though any move for a new 'keeper would rely on replacing either Onana or Bayindir.
“I go back to when we had Roy Carroll and Tim Howard in goal. I don’t think there was 100 per cent trust from the defenders in front of those two goalkeepers," the United legend told the Wayne Rooney Show. “But the minute [Edwin] Van der Sar came in and calmed everything down, the defenders trusted him a lot more and you see a better output of performance,” he said.
Rooney added: “I think with Donnaruma, he’s 26. He’s one of the best keepers in the world. It would be crazy if Manchester United didn’t go for him.”
