West Ham player reaches exit agreement – Now waiting for green light from Hammers

West Ham United’s Edson Álvarez has linked with a return to Ajax over the past week.

On Friday, Ajax manager John Heitinga said he would open the door for the 27-year-old to return. A day later, Álvarez’s agent Nathan van Kooperen explained it would difficult but not impossible for his client to join the Dutch club.

ESPN NL now report the Eredivisie side have decided not to move forward to sign him this summer.

Ajax have ‘definitely withdrawn’ from bidding for the Mexico international as the finances of the operation doesn’t suit them. He earns €6m per year at West Ham and this is too high for the Amsterdam club.

Fenerbahçe have shown interest in the midfielder and ESPN NL reports they can afford to meet his current salary.

They have made advances and are close to an agreement to secure his services on loan with an option to buy. It’s claimed the negotiations are in the ‘final stages’.

There’s confidence the West Ham player will join José Mourinho’s side as the report says he’s expected to be presented in Istanbul soon. ESPN NL have concern whether Fenerbahçe can afford to make Álvarez’s stay permanent.

Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that the Yellow Canaries are close to signing Álvarez on loan with an option to buy. He is now waiting for the clubs to find a full agreement.

He reports Fenerbahçe have accepted West Ham’s request to pay a loan fee and cover his full salary during his temporary stay. The two clubs are negotiating the details of the purchase option.
