Exclusive: Late Twist Delays Midfielder’s West Ham Exit as New Interest Emerges

The transfer to take Edson Álvarez from West Ham to Fenerbahçe has been described as “not done yet” according to a top transfer source.

The Mexican midfielder was expected to sign for the Turkish giants today, but late interest from an unnamed club has complicated the deal.

West Ham have hired agents and intermediaries to try and find clubs for the likes of Álvarez, Andy Irving, Guido Rodríguez and Emerson.

Speaking exclusively to Claret & Hugh this morning, an agent explained: “The deal isn’t done yet.”

The source continued: “The transfer is a year-long loan with an option to buy. Wages covered and a loan fee. But the deal isn’t done yet because another club has gone in very late. Álvarez is due to get on a plane to Turkey today. Terms are agreed with Fenerbahçe but things could change now another club has come in.”

Alvarez is wanted by multiple clubs

While this additional interest has clearly given Álvarez and his representatives food for thought, it seems only to be delaying the inevitable. That said, it could be that the Mexican will still be a Hammer when we play Chelsea on Friday night due to the new interest.

The 27-year-old will not be a West Ham player for much longer though, and it appears both the board and manager Graham Potter are content to sanction his exit — even on loan terms.
