Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has dominated the summer transfer window.
The saga began when Liverpool submitted a formal £110 million bid for Isak in early August, which Newcastle swiftly rejected.
The Magpies are reportedly demanding closer to £150 million for their star striker, setting up a significant gap in valuations that has yet to be bridged.
The 25-year-old striker has gone to extraordinary lengths to push for a move away from St. James’ Park, even relocating from his luxury home in Ponteland after not participating in any pre-season preparations.
Isak is set to shoulder a club-record fine for not appearing for Newcastle in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.
But it seems an end to the saga is getting closer.
Taking to X, Craig Hope has reported that more Yoane Wissa developments are expected today, with Alexander Isak’s future “directly linked”
“Newcastle’s search for strikers continues,” he reported.
“The 2 lists they were working from (Isak replacement, Wilson replacement) are merging into one Wissa, Ramos, Larsen, Muniz, Samu… there aren’t many options now.”
“More Wissa developments expected today, & Isak future directly linked…”
Hope added:
“Isak’s future is directly to any striker coming in (or not). Wissa has been seen as the banker for a few weeks, which is why Newcastle have waited.”
“If Wissa does not happen, the chances of Isak going reduce dramatically. Liverpool are watching closely, I’m told.”
The dominoes could fall: if Newcastle secure Wissa, they could finally sanction Isak’s long-rumored switch to Liverpool.
The Bees are said to be firm that they will only consider selling the forward if their steep asking price, reportedly exceeding £60 million, is met in full.
Adding to the speculation, Wissa has wiped all references to Brentford from his Instagram, going as far as unfollowing the club entirely.
