'He's not': Jamie Carragher says everyone is so wrong about 'off the scale' Man City player

Several of Manchester City’s stars stepped up on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola’s men looked back to their best as they hammered Wolves 4-0 at Molineux, with new signing Tijjani Reijnders stealing the show with a goal and an assist.

The Dutch star was not the only member of Guardiola’s squad to impress against Wolves, as Oscar Bobb stood out to Man City fans, while supporters of the Manchester club were left impressed by the debut of new goalkeeper James Trafford.

However, the performance of one star was arguably more important than the rest, and Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on the player and believes what everyone thinks about the Man City man is wrong.

Erling Haaland is the best striker in the Premier League

Carragher praised the role of Pep Lijnders in Man City’s win over Wolves, but it is clear that the Sky Sports pundit was also impressed by the quick start Erling Haaland made to the 2025/26 campaign.

The Norwegian struggled with injuries and form throughout the previous season, and with Alexander Isak producing magic with Newcastle most weeks, many started to believe the Swedish striker was becoming better than Haaland.

Carragher has now stated that this is not the case and that the Man City superstar is undoubtedly the best centre forward in the Premier League.

“I said it this morning in the production meeting, that people in the last sort of year or so it’s become like, Isak is the best striker, or the people say all-around striker, because we talk about Haaland being a one-trick pony and just getting goals,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“He’s not. Haaland is the best centre forward in the Premier League. I know it’s just about goals, and maybe he doesn’t get involved at different times, but his numbers goals-wise are off the scale. Haaland is the best centre forward.”

Haaland will be keen to remind people about his first two seasons in the Premier League over the coming months as he will be planning to fire Man City to another Premier League title.

The Norwegian’s performance against Wolves was arguably the most important, as if Guardiola’s team are to achieve anything this season, they will need the 25-year-old firing on all cylinders.

How Erling Haaland compares to Alexander Isak

Haaland and Isak are totally different strikers, as the Man City star loves to use his physical attributes to bully defenders and make runs in behind defences.

While the Swedish star is more all-rounded, with the Newcastle striker able to run in behind and having great movement in the box, but can also drop deeper to create chances and space for his teammates.

Both Premier League stars are leading the way in their position, but Isak still has some way to go before he surpasses Haaland.

The Man City star will remind everyone how good he really is throughout the 2025/26 campaign, with the Norwegian star already getting off to the perfect start.
