Newcastle handed boost as PL forward 'keen on possibility' of replacing Isak

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jorgen Strand Larsen is reportedly open to replacing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Magpies have decisions to make regarding the future of the wantaway Sweden international, who is keen to sign for Liverpool during the closing two weeks of the summer transfer window.

As it stands, the Premier League champions are yet to come close to meeting Isak's £150m valuation at a time when Newcastle have struggled to bring in a successor for the number nine position.

Isak currently appears more likely to remain at St James' Park than leave, despite the fact that he would face a hostile reaction if he was brought back into the fold.

However, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Newcastle have been given encouragement regarding the situation involving Strand Larsen.

The report alleges that the Norway international is 'keen on the possibility' of taking on responsibility as Newcastle's number nine if Isak leaves.

Ornstein adds that the 25-year-old is not pushing for a departure from Molineux at this time with a contract in place until 2029.

Nevertheless, it is said that Strand Larsen is regarded as one of a small group of players who are viewed as potential replacements for Isak.

He contributed 14 goals and four assists from 35 appearances in the Premier League during 2024-25 when initially on loan from Celta Vigo.

Wolves, as expected, completed the formalities of a permanent £29m transfer in the summer, and previous reports have indicated that it would take a proposal of at least £65m to consider a quick sale.

Fosun face Pereira, supporters revolt if Larsen leaves

Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha are among eight players from last season's first-team squad that have already left Wolves this summer with just four additions made.

As such, supporters have been left increasingly frustrated by Fosun International's approach to the transfer market, even with Jackson Tchatchoua being signed on Tuesday to strengthen the right wing-back role.

Wolves already need at least one - arguably two - more attack-minded players before the end of the summer transfer window, particularly when Hwang Hee-chan is also being linked with a move to another Premier League club.

The frustration of head coach Vitor Pereira has been simmering all summer and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he may walk away from Wolves if Strand Larsen was sold before the September 1 deadline.

For that reason, it feels unlikely that Wolves would accept any bid from Newcastle, but a scenario could evolve where the chance to make a £35-£40m profit and sign two new central-forwards in Larsen's place may make business sense to Fosun.
