Payton II, the son of Hall of Famer Gary Payton, is currently an unrestricted free agent. He appeared in 62 games for the Warriors last season, averaging 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game.

He shot 57.4% from the field, 32.6% from three-point range, and 71.1% from the free-throw line.

Payton II has been a key part of the Warriors' defensive rotations and championship culture. He has played for the Warriors twice and has career averages of 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.3 blocks with the Bucks, Lakers, Wizards, Warriors, and Trail Blazers.

The Warriors made it to the second round of the 2025 playoffs but were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. Curry suffered a left hamstring injury in Game 1 of the series and missed the remainder.

Golden State has not made major moves in free agency this summer due to Jonathan Kuminga‘s restricted free agency.

Once Kuminga’s situation is resolved, the team expects to re-sign Payton II, veteran big man Al Horford, and wing De’Anthony Melton.
