Graham Potter is in the news for all the wrong reasons as West Ham United set their sights on Jamie Vardy.
Sunderland’s return to the Premier League wasn’t met with any resistance from the Hammers, who capitulated to a 3-0 defeat on 16 August.
Potter’s future at the London Stadium is already under the scanner, and rightly so, as he’s failed to bring stability since replacing Julen Lopetegui.
The English manager isn’t to blame for it all, but his input in the recruitment strategy may not be helping things either.

Jamie Vardy transfer links go against Graham Potter’s previous comments
Vardy is being tracked by the Hammers in the final weeks of the transfer window, according to The Sun.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
The news outlet reported on 18 August that the Irons are keeping an eye on the 38-year-old free agent as they look to add more firepower at the London Stadium.
If the former Leicester City striker does move to E20, Potter will be contradicting the statements he made earlier this summer as he looked to reduce the age of his squad.
Speaking in a press conference, Potter said: “I think it makes sense for us to lower [the age of the squad], because then you’re talking more about value and resale and a different profile of player.
“I’m not ageist. But I also understand the bigger global picture of football, and I’ve come in from the last two clubs [where they] would look to younger players because there are upsides to younger players.”

Niclas Fullkrug, Callum Wilson and Vardy: Potter has clear issue
Niclas Fullkrug’s signing from Borussia Dortmund has arguably been a disaster, with the 32-year-old nursing an injury for a considerable period last season.
The German international’s performance against Sunderland highlighted the need for a more prolific goalscorer at the East London outfit.
It feels like the Hammers have been reluctant to invest in their squad in the ongoing transfer window after making several signings last summer.
Vardy has scored 237 goals across his career.
The 38-year-old found the back of the net nine times in the Premier League last season.
The striker also made 26 appearances for the Three Lions.
West Ham have signed Callum Wilson after he left Newcastle United, but he has had his own fitness issues in recent seasons.
While Vardy was consistently available for Leicester in the Premier League last season, the Foxes were eventually relegated.
The veteran English forward is arguably no longer the player he used to be, and it wouldn’t make sense to sign another ageing striker at the London Stadium.
Potter should heed his previous comments and look for an alternative target instead to bolster his attack before the end of August.
