Anthony Elanga sends message to Omari Hutchinson after taking his number at Nottingham Forest

Omari Hutchinson has swapped a Championship promotion push with Ipswich for a tilt at playing European football with Nottingham Forest.

Hutchinson signed for Forest on Saturday after scoring twice and registering three assists in the Premier League for the Tractor Boys last season.

At 21-years-old, the talented winger can play anywhere across the front three and will naturally bolster the team ahead of a season that will see Forest play in the Europa League.

Hutchinson hailed Elliot Anderson after watching Forest in action against Brentford and it would appear as though the forward is ecstatic to be in place at the City Ground.

Hutchinson was announced on the pitch with his new shirt number revealed at half-time against Brentford.

The winger is taking the number 21 shirt, which was worn by Elanga last season before he moved to Newcastle in the summer.

Hutchinson isn’t really a direct replacement for Elanga, but it’s fair to say that he does have some similar qualities, and he feels like a useful addition to the squad.

The brother of Hutchinson posted on TikTok over the weekend and Elanga posted a message to the player who has now taken the shirt that he used to wear at Forest.

He said: “Do your thing with that number, brother.”

Hutchinson could thrive at Forest

Although Hutchinson might have to be considered a backup in the short term, it’s fair to say that he offers an upgrade on Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa from last season.

Silva is wanted by Sporting CP, and although he came on during Sunday’s win, his days at Forest do now feel numbered.

Hutchinson will get plenty of minutes with four competitions on the horizon this season and at 21, it’s exciting to see what he might achieve playing alongside better players.

Hutchinson spoke of his pride at signing for Forest and he will almost certainly be in the matchday squad this week when Forest play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
