Romano: Man United make 'not for sale' decision on 24yo forward wanted by Napoli

Manchester United have made a decision regarding the immediate future of Joshua Zirkzee.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have made it clear that Joshua Zirkzee is not for sale this summer.

The verdict has already been delivered by the board and manager Ruben Amorim.

Recent reports have linked him with a move to Napoli, but Romano confirmed that Zirkzee has not been in talks with any Italian club this summer.

The Red Devils signed Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million last summer.

Napoli are in the market for a new centre-forward after their marksman Romelu Lukaku suffered a muscle injury.

The Belgian powerhouse is expected to be out for three months.

Zirkzee made 49 appearances last term, netting seven goals and recording three assists.

The 24-year-old failed to impress as a number nine but he performed better as a number 10.

Playing behind a number nine suits Zirkzee, as he has the ability to link up with his fellow forwards and thread through passes.

He is also much better than Rasmus Hojlund in hold-up play, but he lacks the explosive pace required of a traditional number nine.

Napoli have also added Hojlund to their shortlist, but United value him at £40m.

The 22-year-old looks destined to leave Old Trafford after being completely axed from the squad against Arsenal last weekend.

United have already signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and he made his debut last weekend.

With Sesko leading the line, Zirkzee and teenage sensation Chido Obi are expected to provide strong cover throughout the season.

Mason Mount could also be used in a false nine role, making it difficult for Hojlund to earn regular game time.
