Back to basics? Hojlund emerges as'surprise target'for former club

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has reportedly attracted interest from former club Atalanta BC.

The 22-year-old has struggled to cement himself as a first-choice option at the Theatre of Dreams over the past two years and could be set to depart.

The £72m price tag has seemingly weighed heavy on Hojlund, who went 21 games without finding the net last season in an awful barren spell.

During the 2024-25 campaign, the Danish marksman scored just four goals across 32 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.

Since making the high-profile switch from Atalanta BC during the summer of 2023, Hojlund has scored 26 goals in 95 appearances.

Man United outcast Hojlund set for former club?

According to The Athletic, a new Serie A club have thrown their hat into the ring for the services of Manchester United outcast Hojlund.

The report claims that the Dane's former side Atalanta are considering a shocking swoop for the 22-year-old before the end of the window.

It is understood that the one-time Europa League champions have given consideration to bringing Hojlund back to the club.

As well as La Dea, it is believed that there are Premier League suitors for the striker, including Newcastle United and Fulham.

There is also supposedly fondness of Hojlund elsewhere in Italy from AC Milan, who reportedly attempted to sign the player on a loan-to-buy deal.

Man United's different direction

Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has suggested that Hojlund's time in the spotlight at Old Trafford could be approaching an end.

Matheus Cunha started at the top end of the pitch for the Red Devils in the defeat to Arsenal at home on Sunday afternoon.

Benjamin Sesko has arrived for a big fee from RB Leipzig, moving Hojlund even further down the Theatre of Dreams pecking order.
