Edson Álvarez is having something of a crazy week.
A few days ago, Ajax went public with their desire to sign the West Ham midfielder, even though it was acknowledged a deal would be difficult for the Dutch club to complete.
Álvarez earns wages at West Ham which are out of Ajax’s reach and the club would have needed the Mexico international to either reduce his salary or convince the Hammers to cover some of it.
Then, from nowhere, Fenerbahçe arrived and agreed the rough terms of a deal with the Premier League club. The Turkish media reported an announcement on a rough agreement – as is the way it works in Turkey – could even be made today.
Late drama was thrown in with a claim an unnamed club had contacted Álvarez’s agent this morning in a bid to beat Fenerbahçe.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu now reports Inter Milan, FC Porto and Borussia Dortmund have all made offers to the player’s camp today. Fenerbahçe have an agreement with West Ham, but Álvarez is described as being ‘confused’ given all this drama.
This may well be an attempt to squeeze a higher salary offer from the Turkish club.
