Report: Player from Chelsea’s bomb squad agrees personal terms to leave

There are still plenty of individuals on Chelsea’s books who need to try and secure transfer exits before the summer window closes.

The Chelsea bomb squad, which is made up of senior players no longer in the first-team plans, are training away from the main senior group while they wait for their respective futures to be resolved.

Three key Chelsea figures approve the club’s transfers, and it feels like they’ve got a lot right so far this summer. However, they must ensure that the exits continue at a rapid rate because Enzo Maresca must not be left with a squad this season that is too large.

Renato Veiga edges closer to Chelsea exit

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, 22, is one of the stars linked with a move away from West London this summer.

Veiga is up for sale and wants to leave the Blues, even though he only joined them in July 2024 from Basel.

According to BBC Sport, Veiga has now agreed personal terms with Spanish La Liga club Villarreal.

It is explained that the Portuguese defender, who can play centre-half or left-back, is ready to join Villarreal. However, there are some difficult transfer negotiations continuing over the fee for a permanent deal.

The report says that Chelsea have put a £34m price tag on Veiga, who did well on loan at Juventus in the second half of last season. Meanwhile, Villarreal are aiming to agree on a cheaper price, and the hope in Spain is that he could cost under £30m.

BBC Sport adds that Veiga is ‘surplus to requirement’ at Chelsea as he continues to train with their ‘bomb squad’.

Renato Veiga would have fixed clear Chelsea problem

It’s frustrating for Chelsea fans to hear that Veiga is edging closer to leaving because the reality is that he’s got all the tools to help the current team. Instead, it looks like the parties will go their separate ways this summer.

Blues defender Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury, which leaves a mammoth hole in the squad at centre-back.

On paper, left-footed star Veiga has the perfect defensive profile to cover for him. He appears to have cut all ties at Stamford Bridge, though, as a move to Villarreal becomes a potential reality.

There must be plenty of frustration with how Veiga’s career with them has played out.
