Key Dolphins Player Is Dealing With An Injury

The Miami Dolphins entered the offseason with plenty of reasons for optimism, but a recent injury concern has cast some uncertainty over their backfield preparations.

Star running back De’Von Achane suffered an injury during joint practices with the Detroit Lions that kept him out of Saturday’s preseason game between the two teams.

The team has remained tight-lipped about specific details regarding the injury’s severity.

However, head coach Mike McDaniel provided some clarity on Achane’s current situation and the team’s approach moving forward.

“Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Dolphins RB De’Von Achane is dealing with a calf injury and likely will not practice this week. McDaniel said this is ‘preventative in nature’ especially because of how explosive of an athlete Achane is,” ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques shared on X.

Achane enjoyed a breakout 2024 campaign that saw him appear in all 17 games while accumulating 1,499 yards from scrimmage.

He rushed for 907 yards and six touchdowns on 203 carries while adding 78 catches for 592 yards and six more scores through the air.

His temporary absence creates additional pressure on Miami’s running back depth chart.

The Dolphins will lean on Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright to handle increased workloads during practice and their preseason finale against Jacksonville.

The situation becomes more complicated following Alexander Mattison’s season-ending neck injury, which already thinned the position group.

McDaniel expressed confidence that Achane will be ready for the Week 1 opener against Indianapolis, assuming no complications arise.

Miami continues taking a cautious approach with their dynamic playmaker, prioritizing long-term health over preseason reps.

As September approaches, Achane’s recovery timeline remains a key storyline for a Dolphins team hoping to make noise in a competitive AFC landscape.
