Man United risk missing out on£17m goalkeeper solution if Ineos don't act quickly

Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has been a hot topic all summer and even more so after the Arsenal defeat.

The Red Devils kicked off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, with the Gunners capitalising from a set piece in the first half.

The spotlight has been on Altay Bayindir after he failed to deal with Arsenal’s corner routine, which saw Riccardo Calafiori score at the back post while William Saliba wrestled with the Turkish shot-stopper and Mason Mount.

Mark Clattenburg argues Arsenal’s goal should have been disallowed by VAR, and Ruben Amorim was quick to agree after full-time.

But Bayindir’s questionable goalkeeping has posed questions about whether United need to sign a new No.1 this summer.

Man United are at risk of missing out on Senne Lammens

While United have been linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emiliano Martinez this summer, it seems the preference inside the club’s hierarchy is to go for a young signing full of potential, such as Senne Lammens.

Lammens is eager to join United, but Ineos are yet to make a move for the exciting 23-year-old star.

According to the Daily Mail, Lammens is still on United’s radar but Ineos are at risk of missing out on his signature.

That is because Italian giants Inter Milan are also in the market for a new goalkeeper and they could beat United to Lammens if the Red Devils don’t move quickly.

Lammens is expected to cost around £17m this summer which is well within United’s budget, especially now that a move for Carlos Baleba seems unlikely.

During his time at Royal Antwerp, Lammens has become an elite goalkeeper with shot-stopping stats that rank him not only above Andre Onana, but also above United’s other targets.

Ineos cannot afford to miss out on Lammens.

Ruben Amorim is saying one thing but doing another

After the Arsenal clash, fans saw Amorim fiercely defend Bayindir to the press.

Amorim explained that Onana was fit to play, but he felt Bayindir deserved to start following his impressive performances in pre-season.

But the Arsenal game was a reminder that United need an upgrade in goal. Amorim may be publicly backing Bayindir, but behind closed doors there are concrete links to a new goalkeeper.

United submitted a loan offer for Martinez earlier this summer, which strongly suggests Amorim isn’t as pleased with his goalkeeping department as he says he is.

It seems unlikely that Onana will be sold this summer, so it makes sense for United to go for a younger option in goal to compete with the Cameroon international.
