Newcastle United may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, as the London club are considering replacements.

It’s been a turbulent summer off the pitch for Eddie Howe’s side amid the ongoing Alexander Isak saga, with the Swede still unavailable as he looks to force through a move to Liverpool before the transfer deadline. However, as widely reported in recent weeks, Newcastle securing suitable replacements for both Isak and the already departed Callum Wilson will be key to any potential exit.

Much like Isak, Wissa is also on strike as he attempts to force a move to St James’ Park and fulfil his ambition of playing Champions League football. On Monday, the 28-year-old removed all trace of his current club from Instagram and unfollowed them, and in doing so made his stance on the situation crystal clear.

Having already sold Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer, Brentford appear unwilling to sanction Wissa’s departure unless they secure a replacement of their own. According to French outlet Le10Sport, that could come in the form of a shock move for their former player, Neal Maupay.

The French forward currently plies his trade in Ligue 1 with Marseille but is expected to leave this summer. The outlet claims Brentford have now entered the race for the 29-year-old and have contacted Marseille to discuss the terms of a potential transfer, although no formal bid has been made yet.

Brentford may face competition if they do pursue a move, however, with the likes of Lille, Udinese and Genoa also linked with the player.

Since joining Marseille in the summer of 2024, initially on loan from Everton, Maupay has scored four goals and registered four assists across 24 appearances in all competitions. His previous spell at Brentford was more fruitful, however, with 49 goals and 17 assists in 126 appearances.
