Portuguese club pondering whether to sign Sunderland player

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reports that Sunderland striker Luís Hemir Semedo could be on the move again, this time heading back to his home country. The 22-year-old is being linked with Estrela da Amadora on a potential loan deal, although the Portuguese side have not confirmed the approach.

If the move goes through, Semedo would become Estrela’s 21st reinforcement of the season and their sixth new option for the attack. The forward came through Benfica’s academy and left the club in 2023 after featuring in 18 games and scoring twice for their B team.

Semedo hasn’t managed to push his way into Sunderland’s first team picture and that task is now made even harder given promotion to the Premier League and subsequent spending.

The striker has spent time on loan in Italy with Juventus’ under-23s, where he played 28 times and scored twice. Whether he now adds Estrela da Amadora to his résumé depends on the final outcome of the negotiations, which remain unconfirmed at this stage.
