NFL GM Believes the Eagles are Not Done Making Trades

The Philadelphia Eagles made a surprising move Sunday afternoon as they completed their second trade of the offseason with the Houston Texans. The Eagles traded for wide receiver John Metchie, pairing him with college teammate DeVonta Smith.

The Eagles are also receiving a 2026 sixth-round pick in the deal. In return, the Texans will receive tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

AFC General Manager offers an interesting quote about the Eagles continuing to make trades

This deal comes as a little bit of a surprise given the current depth at the wide receiver position. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are obviously the teams top two receivers. Jahan Dotson seems locked in for the teams wide receiver three role. Other players like Johnny Wilson seem like a roster lock at this point. Even players like Anais Smith and Darius Cooper have a good chance to make the Week 1 roster. It will be interesting to see how the wide receiver room shakes out between now and the Eagles first game against the Cowboys.

An anonymous AFC general manager offered an interesting comment after this trade. According to this general manager, he believes the Eagles are just getting started making moves.

Could the Eagles be making another trade soon?

This is definitely an eye-opening comment. It shows Howie Roseman has a reputation around the league for making trades. Like the previous tweet says, they have a lot of draft capital in the 2026 draft as well. They have all seven of their picks, along with a few others. The Eagles own the Jets third-round pick from the Haason Reddick trade from before the 2024 season. They have a conditional fifth-round pick from the 49ers from the Bryce Huff trade from a few months ago. The Eagles also acquired the Falcons fifth fifth-round pick in a draft-day trade this year. They also will receive 3 compensatory picks for losing Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, and Mekhi Becton in free agency. With 13 total draft picks in next years draft, you can bet that Howie Roseman will be aggressive.

What would the Eagles target?

The Eagles are one of the most unpredictable teams in the league, as evidenced by the Metchie trade. There may be a few positions the Eagles decide to target before the season though.

The first one that comes to mind is cornerback. Given the uncertainty regarding the starting outside cornerback, the Eagles could look to add a player here. They already made a move here for Jakorian Bennett. If the Eagles feel uncertain about the players they currently have though, don’t be surprised if Roseman pulls off another move.

They could also look to strengthen the defensive line, specifically defensive end. Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt showed real flashes near the end of last season. They are putting a lot of faith into those two players taking a leap. The depth at that position too leaves more questions than answers though, with free agents Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche. Adding another defensive end to strengthen their front feels like the most likely way for the Eagles to make another trade before the season starts.
