Alexander Isak has made no secret of his desire to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool.

Isak is essentially on strike at Newcastle to try and force a move, choosing to be away from his teammates despite attempts from head coach Eddie Howe to reintegrate him.

He has been training alone at the club’s Benton training ground for the past fortnight and is set to be fined after missing the Premier League opening day draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Despite the player’s self-exposed exile, the reality is that Isak will be going nowhere, as it stands. The Magpies want to sign a replacement for Callum Wilson and then add another striker before entertaining Isak’s exit.

Newcastle have set out to sign two strikers but, with just 13 days of the summer transfer window remaining, have recruited none, having been rejected by the likes of Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. Eddie Howe’s side have remained hopeful of signing Yoane Wissa but Brentford are currently putting a block on his exit.

Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool ready to bid again for Alexander Isak

Liverpool saw a £110million bid rejected for Isak on August 1 but are yet to return with an improved offer. Despite their silence, Romano says the Reds are primed to bid again, should Newcastle “open doors”.

Not only is it dependent on Newcastle finding a replacement, but Liverpool would have to meet Isak’s valuation, which is in the region of £150m.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “What's Liverpool position? Very silent, very quiet, but not sleeping on this one. Liverpool are ready to bid again for Isak.

“Liverpool, if Newcastle will open doors, will be very ready with a new proposal. Forget about Liverpool not bidding, they will be very ready, they are very ready and this is very clear.

“Liverpool have never called any other striker as of today, then if it changes tonight or tomorrow I will let you know, but Liverpool didn't approach any other striker, only Alexander Isak.

“The focus is very clear, waiting to see what's going to happen with Newcastle, but the player is very clear, the club is very clear and so just waiting to be together as soon as possible.”

Fabrizio Romano: Alexander Isak turns down new Newcastle United contract

Isak still has three years left on his contract at St James’ Park and according to Romano has already turned down a new deal, which would have made him the highest-paid player in the club’s history and included a 2026 summer release clause.

Romano said: “What I can tell you is that Newcastle got again a strong message from the player. Newcastle, these months, July, August, always tried to approach Alexander Isak, always tried to say, ‘are you sure there is not even one single way to continue together?’ They even offered him a new contract with a record salary for the club, but also with an exit clause to let the player go in 2026.

“Alexander Isak again is saying no chance, Alexander Isak has no intention to change his mind, those close to Alexander Isak maintain the same position, only Liverpool Football Club, only waiting for the next steps on this story.”
