Why Ben Doak changed his name after leaving Liverpool and joining Bournemouth

The Premier League journey of Ben Doak has taken a new turn — and so has his name. The 19-year-old winger left Liverpool this summer to join Bournemouth in a £25 million move.

He arrives on the South Coast with plenty to prove, a fresh shirt number, and a new name to match.

Doak was once seen as one of Liverpool’s brightest young hopes, but he struggled to break into the first team.

In two seasons, he made just 10 appearances without registering a goal or assist.

Now, after signing a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium, he hopes for regular football and a chance to show his real quality. But it’s not just his football that’s making headlines.

When Bournemouth announced the deal, fans noticed something different. The club unveiled him as Gannon Doak.

Gannon is the player’s middle name, and he has chosen to use it going forward to honour both of his parents’ surnames.

Speaking about the move, the winger said:

“I’m buzzing to be here. I feel like it’s the right time for me and it’s a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit.”

He will wear the number 11 shirt for the Cherries and is eager to fit into Andoni Iraola’s fast, attacking system. Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, praised the new signing, saying:

“Ben is an exciting young talent who has shown his quality at the highest level despite his age. He brings pace and energy that will fit our model well.”

Doak, now officially Gannon Doak, already has six senior caps for Scotland. He may be young, but his international experience adds weight to his new adventure in the Premier League.
