Opinion: Everton must regret letting go of young player who Frank Lampard said had ‘everything’

Everton have had mistakes that have come back to haunt them, and now a new error is developing.

The Friedkin Group will know they have to be careful with letting players go, as there is quite easily a chance it could come back to bite them.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin joining Leeds United could be a prime example if the striker hits the ground running.

But this happens to be the case with a lot of young players, as Farhad Moshiri made the mistake of letting Ademola Lookman go.

Now, another player who was ushered out is making a name for himself, and it’s someone David Moyes would probably love back at Everton.

Everton must regret letting Isaac Price leave on a free after West Brom success

A player who has started the 2025/26 season exceptionally is former Everton academy graduate Isaac Price.

The 21-year-old is shining in the Championship with West Brom fans thinking Price is very promising, and he’s certainly shown that so far this campaign.

Coming off the back of a strong end in 24/25, Price has taken his role with the Baggies to the next level so far, scoring three goals in the opening two games.

This means there must be some regret from the Toffees’ side of things, as Price was on the books of the Merseyside club, but left upon the expiry of his contract to Belgian side Standard Liege.

After impressing in Europe, a move to the West Midlands for £2.5 million came to fruition, and with Moyes loving Championship players, he would be the ideal fit in his squad.

Nevertheless, he’s creating a new legacy away from the Blues, and Frank Lampard could have easily called his upward trajectory.

Frank Lampard was a big fan of Isaac Price at Everton saying he had ‘everything’

Lampard nurtured many stars at Everton, and many former players have looked back on his brilliance.

Alex Iwobi’s best football was under Lampard, and although it didn’t work out for the Chelsea legend, he had a keen eye for exciting faces.

This is exactly what the former manager said about Price in April 2022 in a pre-match press conference, as he claimed: “Isaac Price I’ve been really, really impressed with. In terms of him as a midfield player, he’s got everything. There’s a potential that Isaac will be in the travelling squad and could be on the bench. He absolutely deserves it.”

Lampard obviously gave Price his Premier League debut further down the line in May against Arsenal, which will be a moment he will forever cherish.

In the future, we could see the 21-year-old in the top flight again, and much to the Toffees’ dismay, Price wouldn’t of left Everton if Lampard stayed.

The former Blues boss saw the West Brom’s star promise, and now he is living up to the potential that Lampard foreshadowed.
