Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund is expected to leave the club this summer after United signed Benjamin Sesko.
One of the developing transfer stories at Old Trafford is the future of Rasmus Hojlund who has been linked with a move away. It is understood that Manchester United have told the striker that they plan on selling him after they signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig earlier in the window.
It comes after he struggled last season, scoring just four goals in the Premier League, which is not enough for United’s first-choice striker. It now seems that AC Milan have competition to sign the 22-year-old just two years after he joined Man United.
Hojlund could return to Atalanta
Man United spent big on Hojlund two years ago, with a fee of £72m from Serie A side Atalanta, and it has now emerged that he could return to the Italian club. According to The Athletic, Atalanta are monitoring Hojlund’s situation as he is available for a transfer this summer.
They wrote: “Atalanta continue to follow Rasmus Hojlund’s situation and have given consideration to bringing him back to Bergamo.”
If the Red Devils were to sell Hojlund back to Atalanta for less than £40m, it would sum up the disastrous transfer that has been the Danish striker's career at United.
They paid over £70m for him, and just two years later, they could sell him back to the same team for over £30m less, resulting in a total loss and also failing to develop a promising young striker into the talent that many believe he can be.
Hojlund also generating Premier League interest
It isn’t just Serie A clubs that hold an interest in the Danish striker, as reports have also said that Fulham are keen to sign Hojlund this summer, as they look for a potential replacement for Rodrigo Muniz.
Muniz scored for the Cottagers over the weekend against Brighton, but reports have linked him with a move to Atalanta, and if the Italian club were able to sign the Brazilian striker, they could potentially look to bring in Hojlund as their replacement, a move which could suit the 22-year-old.
If Hojlund were to join Fulham, there would be much less pressure on him, but it would keep him in the Premier League and also give him a strike partner who is experienced and could mentor him in Raul Jimenez. However, it is understood that Fulham are keen on a loan move rather than a permanent transfer, which doesn’t match with what Manchester United want, as the Red Devils are desperate to bring in more transfer funds.
