“What An Insane Organization”: NFL Fans Baffled Over Indianapolis Colts Decision To Name Daniel …

The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a one-year deal in the offseason in free agency to compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting job. Richardson has struggled in his two years as a starting quarterback with Indianapolis and Jones was released by the New York Giants last season.

Indianapolis Colts guard Tanor Bortolini (60) hikes the ball to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (17) on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, during a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Jones joined the Minnesota Vikings practice squad late in the year. With that being said, Jones is looking to revamp himself with the Colts this year. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, he reported on his Twitter page,

The#Colts are naming Daniel Jones their starting quarterback, per sources. After a training camp competition with Anthony Richardson, Jones — the former#Giants starter — gets the ball Week 1 vs. Miami.”

With Jones being named the starter for Indianapolis over Richardson, could this potentially spell the end of Richardson in Indianapolis? It seems as if general manager Chris Ballard made a horrible choice with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

There are a lot of NFL fans who are laughing at the fact that Jones is the starting quarterback for the Colts over Richardson. This is what some of the fans had to say about it on Twitter:

lol… what an insane organization. This is what happens when there is not alignment from ownership down. AR might actually suck and not be an NFL QB but trying to keep your jobs with Danny Dimes is a tough look

I called this. I said as soon as they signed DJ that “the competition” was all a front… they weren’t signing him on that deal without making him starter this year… smh there as never a competition for AR, they had there minds made up when he put pen to paper

Colts are in for a treat regardless of who they start. Better off running the whole year with JT 🤣

Think this is the right move.

Once you move off a QB, you cant go back. If/when Jones fails, they can say “You saw how bad he was” and attempt to develop Richardson for the rest of the season without the looming “Put in Jones”

Request that trade AR, they don’t know ball in Indy

With Jones starting in 2025, there is a good chance that Colts fans will realize that they are going to be in quarterback purgatory for the short-term. Jones and Richardson are not the answer for the long-term for the franchise and neither is rookie Riley Leonard. If Jones doesn’t play well, there could be a chance that Leonard could start in some games late in the season as well.

Jones played in 10 games with the Giants during the 2024 NFL season. He completed 63.3% of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Jones also rushed for 265 yards on 67 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 4.0 yards per carry. This could be the final chance that the 28-year-old could prove himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

It appears if the Colts franchise is done with Richardson. There is a world where Indianapolis could finish with a 2-15 record in 2025. If that were to happen, general manager Chris Ballard, head coach Shane Steichen, and others would get fired. There is a chance that Indianapolis would be able to draft one of the top quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft if that were the case. It is also possible that Richardson will also request a trade, but no team may not want to take him as a reclamation project.
