Everton fell to an opening-day defeat away to Leeds United, with Beto failing to fire up top.
David Moyes worked wonders on Merseyside to steer the Toffees away from relegation last season, but all of that hard work was subdued when Everton suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Leeds on Monday night.
It was a controversial penalty decision that saw Leeds pick up three points, but Everton walked away from the game with what they deserved: nothing.
There was no quality on the ball, and much of that came down to the lack of influence from Beto, who could be on his way out.

Beto cannot be a starter for Everton
Beto enjoyed a purple patch under Moyes last season, but outside of that, he has been nothing but an expensive waste of space.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Via Capology, he earns a reported £50,000 per week, and very rarely has he come even close to justifying that sort of financial investment.
Once again, Beto was anonymous against Leeds and failed to provide any sort of threat against one of the three teams predicted for relegation.
Everton have signed Thierno Barry this summer, but given the fact that he is an unknown entity, they still need another body up top.
Beto was linked with a £30million exit earlier in the window, and if the Toffees can get a fee even close to that, they need to grab it with both hands and reinvest it in a striker who can influence games.

The Friedkin Group are failing their first Everton test
This summer was the first real opportunity for TFG to showcase their ambition and planning at Everton, and so far, it has been unsuccessful.
Only one new arrival started the clash against Leeds, showcasing the fact that they have not added anywhere near enough quality to the side that could have been relegated last season had it not been for Moyes.
The Scotsman deserves to be backed, but with 12 days remaining in the transfer window, time is running out for that to be a reality.
