Alan Shearer has been vocal throughout the Alexander Isak saga at Newcastle United.
Alan Shearer believes Alexander Isak has created a “s***** situation” for everyone involved at Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s men dropped two points against Aston Villa on the opening day of the campaign. Many would have taken a point before kick-off given how Newcastle looked in pre-season.
However, the Magpies controlled the game for large spells, managing 16 shots to Villa’s three and recording 61 per cent possession. The lack of a striker was clear - especially when Unai Emery’s men were reduced to 10 men with half an hour remaining.
Alan Shearer bemoans Newcastle United situation
Speaking to The Rest Is Football podcast, Toon icon Shearer opened up about how the saga is affecting the club. He said: “I wish I knew. It’s such a s***** situation for everyone. I heard Eddie Howe saying the situation is no different to what it was three or four weeks ago, which is a nightmare.
“It’s horrible for Newcastle because they need two centre-forwards in for them to even contemplate letting him go. If they do let him go, how much?”
Gary Lineker responds
His co-host, Gary Lineker, slammed Isak for his actions after enjoying an “amazing season” last year. He added: “It’s a really messy situation he’s left themselves in. I know players want to move sometimes. Clubs can be difficult when they want you out, it’s often a two-way thing. If I were a teammate, I’d be very grumpy with him.
“If you’ve got three years left on your contract, you’ve signed that contract. You’ve just won a trophy for the first time (in 56 years), amazing season. I understand if Liverpool come in and you want to win Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues. I totally understand that. But downing tools to make it happen? You just think ‘Really?’”

"We would like a resolution. The ownership, everyone, the players we have, want that clarity. You don't need any distractions. I'm not in control of that. There's only one person in control of that."
