Colts Make Official Starting QB Decision

The Indianapolis Colts are making a major move at quarterback.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Anthony Richardson will be on the bench, and Daniel Jones will be their starting quarterback.

“After a training camp competition with Anthony Richardson, Jones — the former New York Giants starter — gets the ball Week 1 vs. Miami,” Pelissero wrote on X.

However, this may be a short-term issue or something to motivate Richardson, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Yet, head coach Shane Steichen said Jones was going to have a long leash, adding that the Colts would gladly welcome him back next season and sign him to a long-term deal if he plays well.

This is a disastrous turn of events for Richardson, who entered the league as one of the most polarizing quarterback prospects in recent years.

He’s incredibly athletic, strong, big and fast, but that hasn’t led to any sort of success on the field.

He missed most of his rookie season with multiple injuries, and he also missed games last year.

Even when healthy, he completed less than 50 percent of his passes, at times missing open receivers by large margins.

He also made news for the wrong reasons when he admitted that he tapped out of a play because he was exhausted.

Richardson is 23 years old and hasn’t played that much high-level football, so he might turn out to be better at some point in the future.

But losing your job just 15 games into your career to a player who was let go during last season isn’t a good omen of what’s to come.
