'Concentrate on Barcelona' - Gary Neville's warning to Marcus Rashford following Man United comments

Manchester United legend Gary Neville had some strong words for Marcus Rashford following his latest interview.

This summer, Marcus Rashford was one of five Manchester United players cast out by Ruben Amorim and told to train away from the first team.

After leaving to join Aston Villa on loan for the second half of last season, Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan for 2025/26 as the only significant outgoing at United so far this summer.

Rashford was criticised on his Barcelona debut after some promising performances in pre-season. If he performs well in Spain, there is a £26 million buy option attached to his loan deal.

In a recent interview with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, Rashford accused United of being reactionary, and it seems his comments didn’t go down well with club legend Gary Neville.

Rashford told Lineker and Richards that he’d ideally like to stay at Barcelona, and it seems like a return to United under Ruben Amorim is off the cards regardless.

In his interview, he criticised the club’s direction, suggesting that United can never win the league without sticking to a plan.

When these comments were brought up to Neville on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, his response raised eyebrows.

“Let’s ignore that because I don’t want to go into Marcus Rashford’s comments tonight,” Neville said.

“He was there at the club for 10 years, he had his opportunity to impact the club.

“Ruben Amorim, this year, I think will do a good job.

“Marcus can concentrate on Barcelona…”

Marcus Rashford should focus on Barcelona

As Neville says, it’s in Rashford’s best interest to stop talking about United and focus on his own career.

Rashford’s attitude at United was concerning, and Amorim frequently suggested his effort levels in training were not up to scratch.

Fans criticised Rashford’s work rate in matches after watching the Carrington graduate often refuse to track back and contribute defensively.

Ultimately, Rashford has been given a reality check this summer and, luckily for him, the stars aligned to make a Barcelona move possible.

He has no option but to impress in Spain and secure a permanent move to Barcelona. But his focus should be on breaking into their starting XI rather than how Amorim and United are doing back in Manchester.
