More BlueCo business? Two-game Chelsea starlet 'in discussions' to sign for Strasbourg

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to sell Genesis Antwi to Strasbourg before the end of the summer transfer window.

Business between the Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs has become a regular occurrence since BlueCo's takeover of the latter.

Already this summer, Chelsea have allowed Mike Penders, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez to make the switch to France on season-long loan deals.

Furthermore, Ishe Samuels-Smith and Mathis Amougou have signed on a permanent basis, joining Diego Moreira who made the move in 2024.

According to The Chelsea Spot, who were commenting on X, another fringe Blues player could soon be linking up with Liam Rosenior's squad.

Antwi on his way to Strasbourg?

The X account, which provides regular information on the Chelsea academy teams, claims that discussions have already been held between the relevant parties to determine whether a deal is plausible.

Antwi and his family are said to have already travelled to France to establish whether there would be interest in making a move at this stage of his career.

Two senior appearances were made by the 18-year-old last season, being introduced as a substitute against Copenhagen and Djurgardens IF in the Conference League.

However, Antwi - who is most accomplished as a right-back - currently has Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong as options ahead of him in the senior pecking order.

Despite that, the academy graduate is viewed as a star man for the Under-21s, most recently contributing an assist in the 3-1 victory over Manchester City in Premier League 2 on Monday night.

A Sweden Under-19 international, Antwi has made 15 appearances for the Under-21s, chipping in with two goals and four assists.

Does the transfer make sense for all parties?

Antwi will want to earn as much first-team possible at this stage of his career and he theoretically has more chance of accumulating minutes at Strasbourg than Chelsea.

That is providing that Strasbourg qualify for the League Phase of the Conference League. They must first overcome Brondby in a two-legged playoff tie.

Strasbourg have started to mimic the strategy deployed at Chelsea by fielding a starting lineup against Metz on Sunday that had an average age of below 21.

While Antwi would not become first choice, a trend is being built and he would be earmarked for senior minutes at some stage this season or next if he signed for the French club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea would realistically insert a buy-back clause should they be left impressed with the prospect's progress.
