Liverpool serenaded Italian forward Federico Chiesa with his signature song after the diminutive forward scored the go-ahead goal in the club's opening Premier League match of the 2025/26 campaign against Bournemouth last Friday.
Here are the lyrics (to the tune of 'Sway' by Dean Martin): “We can hear them crying in Turin, Federico, he’s here to win., One chat with Arne Slot and he said ‘ciao’, f--- off Juve, I’m a Kopite now…”
While Chiesa admitted he was "really grateful for the song" post-match, it sparked some ire due to its strong anti-Juventus slant. Chiesa played for the Italian giants from 2020 to 2024, scoring 32 goals in 131 appearances.
Liverpool met Juventus in the 1985 European Cup final at Heysel Stadium in Belgium. Fans from each side were separated on either end of the stadium.
A mixed section near the Liverpool supporters contained only fans purchasing tickets in Belgium. Instead, it was filled with a plethora an Italian expats (and Juventus fans) living abroad.
Reds fans breached the section, separated only by a thin fence, prior to kick-off as Juventus attempted to flee. A wall collapsed, causing 39 fans to die and a local state of siege to be called.

The match continued despite the captains of both clubs being made aware that fans may have died — the decision was made by a collection of local and other European authorities. Juventus won the contest 1-0. English fans were subsequently banned from European competition for an indefinite period of time.
Since then, Liverpool has only played the Italian giants twice: both legs of the 2004/05 Champions League. The club attempted to show solidarity with a tifo preaching friendship, though the gesture generally split the Juventus fanbase.
The Chiesa chant, which also adorned Wembley Stadium during the 2025 Community Shield, will likely remain a staple throughout the season if the Italian stays.
He seemed like a surefire bet to transfer clubs earlier in the window, having featured just 14 times for the Reds last season. However, the departures of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, as well as the death of Diogo Jota, have opened up playing time for Chiesa.
“The fans sang for him so many times last season, and it is very nice for him to give them something in return," Liverpool manager Arne Slot said of his versatile forward.
“That is difficult for me to tell you [why supporters have taken to Chiesa so well], although I am a fan, I am never standing on the Kop and don't come up with these songs.
“The only thing I can come up with is Federico had a great history, was a big player deciding to go from Italy to England, which you don't see that much," he added.
“I don't know, maybe it is also a nice song to sing, but then I probably don’t give him the credits he deserves.”
