Man Utd chiefs now 'convinced' they will sign 'phenomenal' star with late bid planned - report

Manchester United are now looking at a potential plan to bring Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports - with the Red Devils' transfer plans seeing them believe that they can win the race for his signature, owing to the downfalls they saw in their 1-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils have truly transformed their striking ranks this summer, having spent close to £200million on attacking trio Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko from Brentford, Wolverhampton Wanderers and RB Leipzig respectively - though other areas are in desperate need of improving if they are to make a dent on the domestic campaign, with Lammens now lined up as their next target.

The report by TEAMtalk states that United are 'zeroing in on' Lammens, who has been named as their No.1 goalkeeper target - with Red Devils chiefs convinced that they will win the race for the Belgian star, who was labelled 'phenomenal'.

There is belief that United will strongly consider a bid to sign the Royal Antwerp star in the final fortnight of the transfer window, with Altay Bayindir's mistake against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday alongside summer injury concerns for Andre Onana, potentially forcing Ruben Amorim into the market for the young shot stopper.

United were generally the better side against the Gunners, but one lapse from the Turkish stopper saw them leave empty-handed, where a point would have been a positive result to kick-start their campaign.

Amorim is thought to be unconvinced by his options in goal, and wants the club to seek a new solution for the campaign - with Lammens being a reported target.

A move for Brighton and Hove Albion's midfield star Carlos Baleba now appears unlikely to happen, thanks to the Seagulls' extortionate valuation of the Cameroonian powerhouse, and now they may distribute some of their transfer budget towards their goalkeeping department, with United having recently touched base over Lammens' situation having been on their shortlist throughout the summer.

Lammens has given indications that he is interested in a move to the Theatre of Dreams, with United sources stating that the club are 'convinced' that they can win the race to sign him, although they must come up with a clear and concise plan. Any 'exit route' for Onana has held back their plans for a new goalkeeper, and now the situation is being looked at with a matter of urgency after Sunday's defeat to Mikel Arteta's men.
