The Houston Rockets made one of the best moves of the offseason, but they also might have made one of the worst.
This offseason, the Rockets were an undeniable winner of the summer, adding Kevin Durant to a team that just finished second in the Western Conference standings. With Durant on the roster, Houston is expected to be among the top contenders in the league next season, challenging the Oklahoma City Thunder’s spot as the NBA’s best.
While that move was certainly one of the best in the entire league, the Rockets didn’t hit on every move they made this summer. While Durant is coming in, the Rockets could have made a big mistake letting a young star leave.
Will Houston regret trading Cam Whitmore?

In a recent article from [Bleacher Report](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25234185-predicting-which-2025-nba-offseason-moves-will-look-worst-season) predicting the moves this offseason that will age the worst, Dan Favale listed the Rockets’ decision to send Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for a couple of second-round picks. It’s hard to deny that Whitmore has the talent to make it in this league, but his fit in Houston was questionable at best.
Whitmore spent much of last season complaining about his role, while Rockets coach Ime Udoka told reporters that the team had laid out what he needed to do to see the floor more. With Whitmore wanting the ball in his hands more and there being even less playing time on the wing with Durant’s arrival, it made sense for the Rockets to let Whitmore shine elsewhere.
Although the move should work out for Whitmore, Houston might regret letting him get away for such little return if he can prove his worth in Washington.
