Australian basketball continues to make waves internationally, with Jacob Chance reportedly named Head Coach of the Austin Spurs.
Currently an assistant for NBL team Melbourne United, Chance looks to be the next Aussie to make the leap to the G League, taking on the position for the San Antonio Spurs affiliate.
This comes after he took on head coaching duties for the Australian Boomers during last November's FIBA window, before the position was officially awarded to Adam Caporn - another Aussie with G League head coaching chops.
Australian Jacob Chance reportedly named G League team head coach
Australia looks set to gain another top-tier basketball coach, with Jacob Chance reportedly signing as head coach of the Austin Spurs.
According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Chance has become the next leader of the team, after 2025 Austin coach and G League Coach of the Year Scott King was promoted to an assistant coach on the Spurs NBA squad.
"The San Antonio Spurs will hire Jacob Chance as G League head coach of the Austin Spurs, league sources told HoopsHpye," Scotto wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"Chance was an assistant coach for the Australian Men’s National Team and Melbourne United (NBL). He was also acting head coach for Australia’s National Team."
Chance's new move comes after an impressive stint in the NBL, including back-to-back Grand Finals with Melbourne United.
He is the second Australian to be the head coach of the G League squad, with Adam Nielsen coaching the side during the 2020-21 season.
