Arteta setback as 'no approach made' for attacker despite Premier League concern

Arsenal have not yet made an approach to Real Madrid for left-winger Rodrygo, a fresh report has claimed.

The Gunners emerged as 1-0 victors against Manchester United on Sunday, winning despite not being at their best in the opening matchweek of the new Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta has once again been backed significantly, but though he has added the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi, the head coach is still reportedly keen on additions.

Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze had been long linked with a move to the Emirates, but Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on his signature.

Transfer journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that Arsenal are yet to move for Real's Rodrygo, and that nobody at the Spanish giants expects the Brazilian to leave this summer.

Arsenal's attacking concern in the Premier League revealed against United

The Gunners struggled to create opportunities in the final third against Manchester United, producing just 0.28 xG from open play, with the team only attempting two shots from inside the box in the second half.

Striker Gyokeres was subbed off for Kai Havertz in the 60th minute after completing four of his nine passes, while also failing to generate a single shot.

Though the striker's individual performance was subpar, Arsenal have struggled for some time in front of goal, with their tally of 59.9 xG in the top flight last term the league's seventh best return.

If Arteta's squad is not reinforced with another creative talent, his side may continue to experience difficulties in the final third, something that could cost them the title.

Can Mikel Arteta find internal Rodrygo solution?

Rodrygo would have come in and started on the left flank in place of Gabriel Martinelli, who is at his best when surrounded by creative passers.

Martin Odegaard is strong in possession, but the midfielder is rarely given the freedom to attempt ambitious moves.

Perhaps Arteta's team would create more chances if the Gunners boss was willing to allow his players to take more risks, and while Arsenal may face more shots, forward players like Gyokeres could benefit.

The Londoners could alternatively look to give more minutes to teenager Ethan Nwaneri, but his playing time must still be managed appropriately considering he is only 18 years old.
