There are a few coaches in the league currently who are considered among the greatest coaches of all time.
However, they do exist, and one of those coaches just signed a key extension to remain the head coach of his team.
What coach signed a contract extension?
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Pacers' head coach Rick Carlisle agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the team.
Carlisle most notably won the NBA Finals in 2011, when he coached the Mavericks.
He most recently led the Pacers to an Eastern Conference title in 2025 and narrowly lost to the Thunder in a seven-game series during the NBA Finals.
He's 10th on the all-time playoff wins list for head coaches with 86 wins.

Carlisle's first head coach position in the NBA was during the 2005-06 season. He's had two stints as head coach of Indiana, coaching for two seasons in the mid-2000s, and then getting the job again in 2021.
He's just seven wins away from 1,000 career regular-season wins as a head coach. His career total of 993 regular-season wins has him currently 11th all-time.
Carlisle has a tough task ahead of him for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. Even though the Pacers made it to Game 7 of the Finals, they lost Tyrese Haliburton to an achilles injury in that game.
A torn achilles will likely keep Haliburton out for the entire 2025-26 season.
The Pacers still have the players and staff to be competitive, but it was a brutal hit losing a franchise player like Haliburton in a win-or-go-home scenario, which also affected the team for this upcoming season.
