Indianapolis has not made it to the playoffs since the 2020 NFL season. There is a lot of pressure on the Colts to make it to the playoffs during the 2025 NFL season. If not, there is a chance that Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard could potentially be fired as well.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen has a conversation Thursday, July 24, 2025, during training camp held at Grand Park in Westfield.
The Colts announced on Tuesday morning that Daniel Jones is going to be the starting quarterback for the 2025 season over Anthony Richardson. There are a lot of Indianapolis fans who are upset that the franchise is already going to be bailing on Richardson. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Florida Gators.
Jones signed a one-year deal in the offseason. He played for the New York Giants last year for 10 games and then was released. Jones was also signed by the Minnesota Vikings practice squad late in the season. With this latest quarterback announcement for the Colts, many fans are already revolting on the head coach.

If Steichen is one of the first head coaches fired during the 2025 NFL season, there is a very good chance that Ballard is also going to get fired during the middle of the season as general manager. Steichen wasn’t the one that drafted Richardson. Ballard was the one who drafted him. Richardson turned out to be a bust after all.
If the Colts are going to be bad, Steichen and Ballard won’t be here for the 2026 NFL Draft because the franchise will have a very hard reset, and they can use one. There is a chance that things could get ugly with Jones at quarterback for Indianapolis in 2025. They will open the season in Week 1 at home against the Miami Dolphins. The Colts have a chance to be a bottom five team in the NFL this year also.
