Everton have had some concerning news emerge regarding their transfer business this summer.

Following Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds on Monday, it is clear that David Moyes‘ squad is far from being complete, with obvious holes within the squad at full-back and up front in particular.

This was highlighted even further due to Beto’s lacklustre performance in West Yorkshire, and Thierno Barry still needing time to adapt to English football.

Although more incomings are needed, a stat regarding players that have left the Toffees this summer is set to have Evertonians concerned.

Alan Myers reacts to concerning Everton transfer news

One way Everton could look to strengthen their squad this summer is by delving into the free agent market, with multiple quality players out of contract.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

However, if Everton want to have more resources in the future, so they don’t have to consider looking at bringing free agents to Merseyside, they could do with raising more funds for players they allow to leave.

Myers reacted to a table posted by The Athletic on X on 19 August, which revealed that Everton have only received £3.4million this summer after spending £75million.

This ranks Everton 17th in the Premier League for fees received for players

Only Fulham, Manchester United and Crystal Palace are below them, with all three clubs not receiving a penny in transfer fees yet so far in the window

Myers reposted this graphic and said: “The very small amount Everton have brought in, this needs to stop, need to buy players that have value in the event they leave the club.”

Players to leave Everton this summer Fee received

Dominic Calvert-Lewin £0

Abdoulaye Doucoure £0

Ashley Young £0

Asmir Begovic £0

Mason Holgate £0

Billy Crelin £0

Joao Virginia £0

Neal Maupay £3.4m

Myers is correct, but Everton have been wise this summer

Whilst ensuring Everton do need to ensure their future signings do have sell-on value to become more sustainable, the Toffees made the correct decision to let go of the players they did this summer.

The worst thing they could’ve done was resign the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Doucoure and put them on lucrative multi-year contracts that would put off any potential new suitors anyway.

TFG must listen to Myers’ advice going forward, but the Everton hierarchy, unfortunately, had to bite the bullet on this occasion.
