Report: Leeds United move ahead of Wolves in race for another forward after Noah Okafor

Leeds United have completed a deal to sign Noah Okafor from AC Milan and now, they are leading the race to sign another forward despite competition from Wolves.

LeedsUnited.News understands that Leeds have now completed a £17.25m deal for Okafor, with RedBull proving key in talks to land the former Salzburg star. The Swiss star is on his way to Leeds for a medical.

Okafor joins the club after Leeds have already strengthened their attack with the signings of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Monday’s hero Lukas Nmecha, who scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Everton.

But despite the presence of three no.9’s and the soon-to-be announced addition of Okafor, who can play up front or out wide, Leeds are now leading Wolves in the race to sign another attacker, from Ligue 1.

Leeds winning race to sign Nantes forward Matthis Abline

Last season, 22-year-old Matthis Abline threw himself onto the radar of European clubs after having a hand in 13 goals for Nantes. A forward that like Okafor, can play out wide, up front or even as a no.10.

Caught Offside claim Leeds are leading the race to sign France U21 ace Abline. It is believed Abline’s dream is to play in the Premier League, and is open to a move to Leeds in the coming days and weeks.

However, the report from Caught Offside claims that Leeds are not the only side interested in signing the Nantes ace. Wolves are also keen on Abline, as they look to replace Man United signing Matheus Cunha.

What LeedsUnited.News knows about Leeds and Matthis Abline

Earlier this summer, transfer expert Graeme Bailey informed LeedsUnited.News that Leeds had held talks to sign Abline from Nantes, alongside Sunderland. The Black Cats have since strengthened their attack.

Whether Leeds still want to sign another attacker remains to be seen, after the additions of Okafor and Calvert-Lewin. But clearly, there is still some intent to strengthen the forward line after the two arrivals.

Abline is a talent and may represent a long-term investment compared to the two and three-year deals handed to injury-prone strikers in Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin. One to keep an eye on moving forward.
