Alexander Isak has dropped a bombshell statement regarding his Newcastle United future, claiming that 'broken promises' have led to his absence from Eddie Howe's squad.
Isak, 25, is adamant that he has played his final game for the Magpies and is determined to force through a big-money move to Premier League champions Liverpool this summer.
On Tuesday, Isak was absent from the PFA Awards, where he was included in their Team of the Year. And shortly after his inclusion, he issued a telling message around his ongoing situation.
In an eye-catching statement shared on his Instagram stories, Isak said: "I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.
"First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.
"I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.
"I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
"The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
"When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.
"Alexander Isak."
Isak, as expected, did not feature for Newcastle against Aston Villa in their Premier League curtain-raiser on Saturday. It came after the Sweden international didn't feature once during pre-season.
Liverpool have held a long-term interest in Isak and made a first official bid - claimed to be worth £110million flat - for the Sweden international earlier this month, but the offer was rejected by Newcastle.
While it has been reported that Arne Slot's side have no plans to submit a second proposal - due to the nature of Newcastle's response to the first bid - a move could still happen before the end of the summer.
The Magpies, however, want to secure at least two new forward additions before sanctioning any departure. Yoane Wissa is among those right at the top of Newcastle's shopping list, but Brentford are blocking a move.
Isak's impressive form last season made him one of the most sought-after players during the early part of the summer transfer window. The ex-Borussia Dortmund man finished the campaign with 23 league goals and 27 across all competitions - both personal records - as he helped Newcastle secure Champions League qualification.
