Mo Salah wins PFA Player of the Year for record 3rd time – 5 Reds in Team of Year

Mo Salah has become the first footballer to win the PFA Player of the Year for a third time.

The PFA Player of the Year trophy is widely considered the most prestigious individual award in English football, as it is voted for by the players themselves.

First awarded in 1974 to Leeds‘ Norman Hunter, the title is the centrepiece of the Professional Footballers’ Association annual awards evening.

Salah has now set a record, taking home the prize for a third time – more than anyone else in the award’s 51-year history.

PFA Player of the Year: Mo Salah

Young Player of the Year: Morgan Rogers

Team of the Year: Sels, Saliba, Gabriel, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Rice, Salah, Isak, Wood

Salah is also named in the PFA Team of the Year, alongside four current Liverpool teammates: Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool’s No.11 previously won player of the year for his exploits in the 2017/18 season and 2021/22 seasons, but the 2024/25 campaign saw him complete arguably his most well-rounded season yet.

With 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 appearances, the Egyptian was by far the best player in England as he took Liverpool to their 20th top-flight title.

Mac Allister was also up for the main prize, alongside Declan Rice, Alexander Isak, Bruno Fernandes, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice.

The Argentine was in attendance at the awards night alongside Van Dijk and Salah.

Salah’s third time winning the award beats the two previously managed by Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Kevin De Bruyne.

If he wasn’t already considered among the all-time greats of British football, this should cement Salah’s place at the top table.

He is currently joint-fourth for the most goals in the Premier League era alongside Andy Cole, and 27 league goals this season will see him move above Wayne Rooney (208) and Harry Kane (213) into second.

As for assists, he is currently 10th with 87. If he were to hit double figures – as he has done in six of his eight seasons – he will move above James Milner (89), Steven Gerrard (92), David Silva (93) and Dennis Bergkamp (94).

Apart from Salah and Mac Allister, no other Liverpool players were up for awards, but Olivia Smith did win the Women’s Young Player of the Year.

Though she now plays for Arsenal, she spent the 2024/25 season at Liverpool before moving for a women’s world record fee of £1 million.
