**West Ham** have endured something of a topsy-turvy [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) day with talk of both exits and arrivals — but ultimately, nothing concrete has materialised.
As [C&H](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) reported this morning, a plane had been chartered to fly midfielder Edson Álvarez to Turkey for a Fenerbahçe medical, only for the Mexican to have second thoughts.
We revealed exclusively that Álvarez’s head was turned by a couple of late offers, meaning he did not travel to sign for the Süper Lig side.
The Hammers have been using intermediaries in an attempt to shift a number of players deemed surplus to requirements, but so far permanent sales have proven difficult to secure. And while one could argue the club’s recruitment team hasn’t exactly excelled at buying players either, that’s another matter entirely.
Agent reveals Alvarez stance
----------------------------
Speaking to C&H, an agent close to the situation told us Álvarez jumped at the chance to explore an alternative destination when informed. But there’s a hitch: “The Turkish bid is the only decent one.”
As we understand it, Fenerbahçe’s offer would see all of Álvarez’s wages covered, a substantial loan fee paid, plus an option to buy at a decent price. The other bids? Not so promising. According to our source: “The club the player wants to join will only pay half the wages. They’ll also pay a loan fee — but that amounts to less than the other half of the salary.”
Complicated, to say the least. From West Ham’s perspective, the Fenerbahçe package makes the most financial sense if a loan is the best we can do. But with Álvarez’s preference lying elsewhere, this saga could drag on and probably will.
