The biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham, Crystal Palace and more.
We’re inside the final fortnight of the summer transfer window, and the rumour mill is only going to keep speeding up – so to help you stay in the loop, we’re back with our latest round-up and review of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting with a story about Arsenal.
With Tottenham Hotspur set to sign Eberechi Eze and a deal for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo likely to prove too expensive, TBR Football reckon that the Gunners have identified “another potential option” on the left wing – citing Fabrizio Romano when they claim that Arsenal could yet sign Ademola Lookman.
The Atalanta winger is currently at odds with his club after they rejected a bid from Inter Milan for his services, and a formal transfer request has been lodged – and with Inter apparently out of the race due to the spiralling costs involved, Lookman “could become an option” for Arsenal.
There is “nothing advanced” and no “concrete move” has been made, but it’s suggested that if Leandro Trossard leaves the Emirates in the coming weeks (which remains a possibility) then Lookman could become a serious target. Reports elsewhere suggest that Atalanta are demanding €60m (£52m) for the former Fulham and Everton man.
The 3AM Verdict: Arsenal have been linked with Lookman regularly over the last six months but there have never been any indications that a bid is going to come in, and there still aren’t – this feels like pure speculation based on a guess from Romano. Not impossible, by any means, but we aren’t holding our collective breath. Trossard may yet leave, however, and we do expect Arsenal to have some left wing options on standby.
Manchester City reignite interest in £40m man
Pep Guardiola remains “a keen admirer of his talents”, and while West Ham would apparently prefer to keep him around, they have also dropped his asking price by half – from £80m a year ago, when City were first reported to be interested, to £30-40m now. That price has also attracted interest from other teams – Crystal Palace are keen, it’s claimed, while Spurs are “in the mix” as well. Saudi side Al-Nassr have supposedly made enquiries, but Paquetá wants to remain in a major European league for now.
The 3AM Verdict: Given that Guardiola has repeatedly said that he wants to trim his squad size down, we doubt that they make a move for Paquetá unless another player leaves, which doesn’t seem likely as it stands. As for the interest from other teams, we’ll find out soon how tangible that is – if the price tag is accurate, then we’d expect several teams to be very keen.
Crystal Palace target Wolves star
Finally, another story which has Crystal Palace moving to sign some attacking reinforcements from a rival Premier League team – in their latest ‘Deal Sheet’, The Athletic allege that Palace have “targeted” Wolves forward Hwang Hee-Chan as the Eagles work to liven up a very quiet transfer window.
There is “no deal in place” for the South Korean as yet but Palace “are speaking” to their rivals and “aim to strike a compromise” – not that there are any details on the asking price or on Wolves’ stance on letting Hwang leave. Any deal would, apparently, be quite separate from Spurs’ efforts to sign Eze and they view Hwang as a depth option for the front line that they want regardless of whether Eze leaves.
The 3AM Verdict: Perhaps remarkably, Hwang hasn’t completed 90 minutes in the league for Wolves since the opening day of last season, and he became less and less of a regular presence under Vitor Pereira as the season wore on, so this seems like a very plausible rumour coming from a strong source. Some financial details would have made it easier to gauge whether it might actually take place, of course…
