Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has turned down the opportunity to join Bayern Munich.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have made significant progress in their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho. They are progressing in talks with Manchester United to sign the Argentine international, who is determined to secure a move to Stamford Bridge.
Bayern Munich have also shown interest, and even made an approach in the last 48 hours. However, the player has rejected their advances, making it clear that his only desire is to join Chelsea.
Garnacho joined the Red Devils back in 2020 from Atletico Madrid, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. He got promoted to their first team in 2022 and was a key figure in their team under Erik ten Hag.
However, the arrival of Ruben Amorim complicated things for him at United. The Portuguese manager wasn’t pleased with his conduct in training, and he ended up dropping Garnacho from the squad. While those issues were resolved to an extent, things went from bad to worse when he was benched in the Europa League final.
The Argentine winger was unhappy with the decision and made his feelings public. While he still has three years left on his deal, Amorim doesn’t have him in his plans, and the player is also pushing for a move away from the club.
While multiple top clubs have been linked with the 21-year-old, he has his heart set on a move to rivals Chelsea. Ideally, United wouldn’t want to sell one of their best young players to a rival club, but they don’t seem to have any other option.
Garnacho is on the verge of sealing his Chelsea move
Bayern recently made an attempt to lure him to Munich, but it didn’t work out. Meanwhile, the Blues are quite keen on signing him and are slowly making progress to add him to their squad this summer.
While the London club have made several attacking signings, they are still seeking more quality on the flanks and see Garnacho as an ideal fit for their project. Negotiations have been ongoing for weeks, and the Blues are now advancing in club-to-club talks, with the deal very much on.
United chief Omar Berrada enjoys an excellent relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy, which could prove crucial. With Garnacho having no future at United and rejecting Bayern, a move to the London club looks increasingly likely before the transfer window closes.
