Chelsea are keen on offloading forward Christopher Nkunku, with German giants Bayern Munich eyeing a transfer. The deal however, is believed to be on the verge of ‘collapse’ after the latest developments in the transfer market.
The deal might fall through with Bayern Munich only seeking a loan move at the moment. The Blues are not certain if this will be the correct decision for Enzo Maresca and his team.
Christopher Nkunku himself is not so convinced of the idea of a temporary move to the Bavarian side. With 4 years still remaining on the Frenchman’s contract, the Blues would have been delighted with Bayern Munich’s interest in their forward.
Nkunku’s Chelsea story
Christopher Nkunku’s time in London left a lot to be desired, with the forward failing to convince the Stamford Bridge faithful. The player was highly regarded in the Chelsea dressing room following his transfer from RB Leipzig, where he amassed 70 goals in 170 appearances.
Injuries crippled the French striker’s chances of shining during his first season in 2023. In the following year, Nkunku was battling it out with Cole Palmer and only made appearances for the Blues in the UEFA Conference League.
To summarise briefly, Nkunku’s time at Chelsea has been rather torrid, and a move away from the English capital would be ideally be the best case scenario. Chelsea are demanding €40 million for their out of favor forward. Bayern are not certain about outrightly buying the player right away and prefers a loan stint at the club before deciding.
The other possible transfers
Enzo Maresca’s team have been seriously linked with a move for another RB Leipzig player, Xavi Simons, this summer. However, reliable sources claim that Xavi’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge hinges on Chelsea’s ability to move on Christopher Nkunku.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schafer, spoke earlier this weekend about Xavi Simon’s situation and has been quoted as saying –
“A transfer will only happen if it makes sporting and financial sense. If that’s not the case, Xavi will be an RB Leipzig player next year as well.”
