Wide receiver Tre Harris hasn’t been able to produce much for the Los Angeles Chargers in the limited action he has had throughout the preseason, but his performance against cross-town rivals in week 2 of the 2025 NFL Preseason against the Los Angeles Rams bumped his stock up.
Harris was targeted only two times in the Chargers’ first two preseason matchups, which he wasn’t able to bring down.
But in the most recent matchup against the Rams, Harris had his best preseason game. Harris was targeted 8 times, catching 6 passes for 85 receiving yards.
His performance landed him on Pro Football Focus’ top 10 rookies of the second preseason week at the 8th spot.
“Harris had logged two targets through two games entering Week 2 of the preseason… He caught three of four short-area targets for 28 yards and two first down. He secured two of three intermediate targets for 23 yards, both first downs. And he secured his lone deep target for 34 yards,” Lauren Gray wrote for PFF.
“Harris’ production also came against both coverage schemes — three catches each against zone (74.6 PFF receiving grade) and single (90.4 PFF receiving grade) coverage.”

Tre Harris’ performance against the Rams earned him some praise from his new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, after the game.
“Some big catches showing the catch radius, the ability to catch it over the middle, catch and run, catch on the sideline,” Harbaugh said about Harris, via the Chargers website. “I thought he had a heck of a game.”
Harris performed his best when quarterback Trey Lance was throwing the ball to him. The connection between the duo allowed Harris to get 4 receptions for 69 yards in the game.
“He’s been doing it in practice, it was just fun to be able to give him the ball,” Lance said after the game, via the Chargers. “He was consistent, made all the plays that the ball got thrown to him,” Lance added… I know he hasn’t got a whole lot of touches in the games, but just excited for him [Saturday].”
Harris had 2 catches from Taylor Heinicke for 16 yards.

Being a second-round draft pick, Harris was not going to receive much playing time in the first preseason in the NFL. The 55th overall pick was set as a roster lock heading into the season, so the team had no reason to play him much in the preseason ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Quarterback Justin Herbert made his first NFL preseason debut heading into year 6. Alongside the QB were many of the Bolts’ starters in the first drive.
Wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who led the Chargers in receiving touchdowns last season, went down early in the match against the Rams after suffering a concussion.
Receivers lower on the depth chart were allowed to get more targets with Johnston down, with Harris being one of them. The former Ole Miss Rebel was able to produce his 85 receiving yards.
With the Chargers bringing back Keenan Allen to the mix, this allowed Harris to show what he can bring to the offense when some of the top receivers are out.
